How To Apply For / Renew An Australian Passport

Applications should be submitted IN PERSON by: 

• adults who do not hold a current, full validity passport (due to loss / theft of the previous passport)
• an adult applying for the first passport since turning 18
• a parent lodging an application for a child's first passport

Applications can be submitted BY MAIL by:

• adult holders of current full validity passports (issued after 20.08.1986), who are not applying for their first passport since turning 18
• a parent lodging an application for renewal of a child's passport

1. Fully completed passport application form

2. Citizenship requirements – please provide one of the following documents to support your application:
* Original Full Australian Birth Certificate OR * Original Australian Citizenship Certificate

3. Previous Australian passport
Please note: Previous Australian Passport's can NO longer be used to prove citizenship.

If the Australian Citizenship document does not show the sex or place of birth you must also present:

• Foreign birth certificate (with official English translation or International birth certificate)

If this is not possible you must present:

 
• Foreign passport if you hold one (current or expired).

If you do not posses either of these documents, please contact the Embassy.

3. If you are providing an Australian Citizenship Certificate and your current name has changed since the certificate was issued, you need to supply a change of name document (marriage certificate, decree nisi, change of name documents issued by the Australian Register of Births, Deaths and Marriages etc.) Originals only, if not in English, then translated into English. For persons born in Australia, a change of name document is required from the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in Australia.

4. Two (2) passport photographs, one of which is endorsed on the back by the Guarantor who completes Guarantor's section (question 11) of the form. Please check the form for guidelines on acceptable passport photos.

5. FOR ADULTS: Combinations of TWO additional ORIGINAL documents of identity, including at least one document with your current photo, signature and address on it. Please see page 2 of the form for further instructions.

6. Parents applying for a child's passport must provide:

• the child's Birth Certificate (original, if not in English, translated in English or international birth certificate). If foreign birth certificate supplied, then Australian Citizenship Certificate must also be supplied for proof of citizenship.

• ORIGINAL Australian passport or an identification document of the lodging parent and a copy of an identification document from the non-lodging parent.

IMPORTANT: Lost or stolen passport? The following additional items must be provided:

• A local police report of the loss or theft of the passport

Passport fees

* Payment of passport fee in Croatian kunas. Please contact the Embassy for the exact amount in kunas.

HOW TO PAY: With cash in Croatian kuna (at the Embassy) or through local post office (via a telegraphic transfer). A copy of the transfer slip must be enclosed with the application.
