Dual Citizenship
On 4 April 2002 the bill passing laws on dual citizenship received Royal Assent. This means that any Australian citizen who acquires another citizenship from this date forward will no longer lose their Australian Citizenship. This Act is not retroactive and therefore, any Australian who acquired another citizenship prior to 4 April 2002, will continue to lose their Australian citizenship but may be able to resume their Australian citizenship under provisions provided under the Australian Citizenship Act.
If you have acquired another citizenship and you wish to check whether it has influenced your Australian citizenship, please contact our Office by clicking below.
